What equipment is required to connect a laptop to a projector?

Steps for the clueless and forgetful:
1.) Plug in one end of the vga cable into the labelled vga slot on the digital projector
2.) Plug the other end of the vga cable into the fat end of the vga mac adaptor
3.) Plug in the skinny end of the vga mac adaptor onto the vga input on the mac book labelled with a box
4.) Turn on the digital projector and select laptop on the control panel
4.) Turn on the mac book
5.) Find system preferences on the mac by clicking on the apple in the corner of the screen
6.) Select display under the heading hardware
7.) Select detect displays and adjust mirror display if required
